How Diet Can Help Prevent Stroke

With 140,000 Americans dying each year from stroke, imagine if I told you that 80% of these strokes could have been prevented.  Well they could have, and they can be.  According to a new study* recently issued from Loma Linda University (California), as many as 80% of strokes are preventable with healthy lifestyle and nutrition choices.

The study, issued from Loma Linda University (California), says that “higher intakes of fruits and vegetables exert a protective effect against stroke, with a significant reduction occurring with consumption of 3 to 5 servings per day.”  Researchers also found that a low-sodium and Mediterranean diet reduced stroke risk as well.  It is important to also note that the study found that a Western dietary pattern was associated with INCREASED stroke risk.
