Eat More Protein

Joy Allison, a certified NJ nutritionist and creator of the FOODFIT weight loss program in NJ, says that eating a protein packed breakfast can help people lose weight by reducing mid morning cravings.

“Protein takes longer to digest and can help people feel full longer,” Joy explains.  “This feeling of satiety can help those looking to shed pounds avoid snacking on junk foods in between meals.”  Eggs are a great source of protein but when there’s no time for a hot breakfast, Joy recommends spreading some all natural peanut butter on whole grain toast, enjoying a handful of walnuts or almonds with a small piece of fruit or adding a protein supplement to a low-calorie, vitamin packed shake.

Joy also says that it’s OK to snack on low calorie fruits or vegetables in between meals to avoid binging at the next meal.

Health Dangers for Men Caused by Sugar Sweetened Drinks

NJ Nutritionist Joy Allison, owner and creator of FOODFIT, warns of the dangers for men who consume at least 12 ounces of sugar-sweetened beverages every day. According to research published in Circulation, an American Heart Association journal, men who drink sugary beverages every day increase their chances of heart disease by 20%.

Heart disease, the leading cause of death in the United States, has several risk factors including obesity, smoking, lack of physical activity, diabetes and poor diet. Of the 42,883 men studied, risk for heart disease stayed high in those drinking sugary beverages even after cutting out other major risk factors. Those who consumed sweetened beverages had higher triglyceride and CRP and lower HDL levels.

To fight the chances of heart disease, the American Heart Association and NJ nutritionist Joy Allison recommend switching to naturally flavored water or unsweetened iced tea. Solliday warns against consuming more than 150 calories per week from sugar-sweetened beverages and no more than 100 calories per week for most women. Infrequent consumption of sweetened drinks, such as two times per week or less, was not found to increase the chance of heart disease in men.

Dieters who follow a weight loss plan like FOODFIT don’t have to give up all of their favorite drinks. Joy’s weight loss program suggests using all natural sweeteners like agave or a hint of lemon to add flavor to beverages like unsweetened iced tea.

Too Little Protein in Your Diet? You Could Be GAINING Weight!

NJ Nutritionist Joy Solliday, owner and creator of the widely successful FOODFIT weight management program, explains how a diet lacking in protein can cause excess body fat and hinder a person’s weight loss. FOODFIT is a comprehensive weight loss plan in NJ that focuses on helping clients lose weight through a multi-platform program combining exercise, diet modification, and lifestyle coaching.

A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association concluded that a diet high in carbohydrates and fats and low in protein will cause people to lose lean muscle and gain body fat. The participants of the study exercised very little and purposely ate more than their required amount of calories with varied amounts of protein.

The group who consumed low amounts of protein stored 90% of their extra calories as body fat versus the other groups where 50% of their extra calories became fat. The group on the low-protein diet also lost an average of 1.5 pounds of lean body mass while the other groups gained an average of 6 to 7 pounds.

Joy Solliday, a NJ nutritionist, works with her clients on creating a diet that includes smarter and healthier choices. Adding lean protein is an essential part of Joy Solliday’s revolutionary NJ weight loss program.  According to Joy, protein keeps clients full longer and helps build lean muscle mass which is essential after exercising.

The study also concluded that high-fat, high-carb diets that are low in protein can cause people to increase body fat even if they are not packing on pounds. People starting a diet or NJ weight loss program like FOODFIT should aim for a high-protein diet to lower body fat percentage and build lean muscle.

The caffeine found in coffee, tea, and dark chocolate increases metabolism and energy. Grapefruit contains large amounts of Vitamin C which is said to lower insulin levels and speed up metabolism. Dairy products like plain low-fat yogurt have also been shown to increase weight loss by delivering good bacteria and probiotics to aid in the digestive process. Eating lean turkey, which is full of protein, will curb appetite and help development of lean muscle.

A healthy diet that includes powerful fat-fighting foods is only part of the platform in the FOODFIT weight loss program created by NJ Nutritionist Joy Solliday. FOODFIT is a comprehensive weight loss plan in NJ that helps clients reach their weight loss goals through exercise, diet, and lifestyle coaching.

NJ nutritionist suggests replacing diet sodas with water, tea or coffee

Joy Solliday, a certified NJ nutritionist and owner/creator of FOODFIT, highlights the dangers of diet soda and offers a healthy alternative.

According to a recent study, even diet soda can be a danger to those watching their weight.

The study, made up of 2,564 adults over 40, was published online in The Journal of General Internal Medicine and found that consumption of both regular and diet soda can be linked to a number of risk factors for heart disease. Participants who controlled their risk factors, such as diabetes, but continued to drink only diet soda still had an increased risk for stroke, heart attack and death.

Joy Solliday recommends replacing soft drinks with water, tea, or coffee with fat-free milk. The certified NJ nutritionists at FOODFIT provide behavioral coaching to uncover what drives unhealthy habits, such as soda consumption, and offer solutions on the best way to change these habits with lasting results.
